State & District Networks for International Education
We build purposeful partnerships with state and district education agencies, colleges of education, and nonprofits serving large numbers of children and teens to ensure students are ready for a global tomorrow.
Our work is focused on preparing children in the United States to contribute to solutions on global issues.
What work do we support?
- Systems Change: states and districts that seek to expand or build coalitions for internationalization of K-12 by gathering policymakers and practitioners to strategically support a plan that accelerate the growth of ideas and bring people from diverse social and economic backgrounds together.
- Resource and System Development: States and districts seeking to systematically extend global competence down to the classroom level through standards, resource development such as new coursework, diploma distinction development, and long-term investments in the system that support global education;
- Piloting New Strategies and new audiences: States and districts seeking to pilot new ways of serving students who have traditionally lacked access to learning about the world.
Who qualifies?
- State and District Education Agencies
- Nonprofits in partnership with a state/district or across the United States
Planning Rubric

Building global competence into all P–12 schools throughout a state is a complex process that requires the engagement of leaders across education, government, business, and non–profit, community and parent organizations. The details of any international education initiative will depend on the state or district education structure and resources. Use our international planning rubric and data from Mapping the Nation to inform your process.
